What you will take home in Italy

Moving to Italy on an offer quoted as annual gross (RAL)? Enter it with the city you plan to live in. The estimate applies 2026 rules: employee social security, income tax with employment credits and local surcharges.

ItemPer year

Estimate for a single employee with no dependants and no other income. Rates from professional sources, not yet checked against official texts secondary. Regional surcharges use the published first bands where the full scale was not available [full regional scales to be added].

How the calculation works

  1. The employee pays 9.19% social security on gross pay, plus 1% on the part above €56,224 a year.
  2. Income tax (IRPEF) applies to what remains: 23% up to €28,000, 33% from €28,000 to €50,000, 43% above.
  3. Employment tax credits reduce the tax. They are largest on low salaries and reach zero at €50,000. Between €20,000 and €40,000 an extra credit of up to €1,000 applies.
  4. The regional and municipal surcharges are added, unless income is below the city's exemption threshold.

For the cost to the company employing you, see the employer cost calculator. For the Blue Card, the threshold is checked on gross salary, not on net pay.
