From India to Italy

Most Indian professionals who move to Italy are graduates in IT, engineering or science, often already working for an international company. For them the EU Blue Card is usually the first route to test, because it sits outside the annual quotas.

Typical profiles

Software and data engineers, ICT managers, mechanical and electronic engineers, researchers, analysts in finance and consulting.

Best first route

EU Blue Card: a three-year degree, or for ICT roles three years of relevant experience in the last seven, plus a salary at or above the threshold.

If the Blue Card does not fit

A quota work permit. Whether India falls in a dedicated quota group [to confirm on the DPCM 2/10/2025 lists].

Documents to prepare early

  • Degree certificate and transcripts, legalised and translated into Italian; a CIMEA comparability statement can replace the declaration of value.
  • Experience letters if you qualify through ICT experience rather than a degree.
  • Passport with enough validity and blank pages for the visa.
  • Marriage and birth certificates if the family will follow.

Apostille procedure for Indian documents [confirm current MEA process]. Consular jurisdiction (embassy in New Delhi or consulates) [confirm by state of residence].

Staying with your current employer

If an Indian or international company wants to keep you after the move, it does not need an Italian entity. We employ you in Italy and invoice the company monthly in EUR or USD. Send them this page.
