From Brazil to Italy
Many Brazilians have Italian ancestors, and some already hold Italian citizenship. Others need a work permit like any non-EU national. The first question is which group you are in, because it decides whether you need a visa at all.
Already an Italian citizen
You can work in Italy without a permit. You still need an Italian employer if your company abroad has no Italian entity: we employ you directly, with no visa step.
Citizenship by descent pending
Recognition rules for descendants were tightened in 2025 [confirm current rules, DL 36/2025 as converted]. Do not plan a start date on a pending recognition: a work permit can run in parallel.
Brazilian citizen only
The EU Blue Card for graduates and experienced specialists, otherwise a quota permit.
Typical profiles
Software engineers and product people, agronomists and food technologists, automotive and mechanical engineers, designers, and founders who move to run a team in Italy.
Documents
- Diploma and transcripts with apostille and certified Italian translation [confirm apostille via Brazilian notary offices].
- Birth and marriage certificates for the family file.
- For citizenship cases, keep the recognition file separate from the work file.
